Gregor is yet another family representative defending the Gracie name in the rings and cages. Known for the slick No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu skills he’s displayed in his appearances at events like the ADCC, Gregor notched his third MMA win this past October 2. Against Mariusz Linke at Brick City Fighting Championship in New Jersey, the black belt managed to sink a fight-ending rear-naked choke in just 2:13 minutes.

In a conversation with GRACIEMAG.com, the fighter comments on the challenge and says he’s ready to go after the best in his division. Check out what he had to say:

What are your thoughts on your last fight, was it what you expected?

I was really pleased! I thought it was perfect; I won without a scratch, couldn’t have been better! I trained a lot for this fight and I was real confident. I knew I’d do well.

Do you feel your ready to fight in a big promotion? Have you received any offers?

I’m still young and feel no pressure. I want to have a long career and I hope to do some fights before going on to a big event.

Everything in my game can improve; I want to be the best” Gregor

Your only loss came by way of striking. How do you feel standing and what are you doing to improve? What in your game do you feel needs to improve?

I’ve always trained standup and I feel comfortable striking. But I have to keep training to get even better. I feel everything in my game needs to improve; I want to be the best and I thus have to evolve in everything. A lot of Jiu-Jitsu fighters only prioritize striking and end up getting worse on the ground. So I feel it’s important to practice everything and never forget Jiu-Jitsu.

Who are your favorite fighters in your division (welterweight)?

Georges St.Pierre, Ricardo “Cachorrão” Almeida, Jake Shields, and Jon Fitch.

Do you intend to do more MMA now? Do you plan to continue competing at grappling events?

My priority now is MMA. It’s a different sport and you train for it differently. But any opportunity I get, I’ll compete in Jiu-Jitsu. I love training Jiu-Jitsu and competing is a pleasure.

Do you train a lot in the gi as well? How important is the gi to MMA training, in your opinion?

When I don’t have a fight coming up, I train in the gi every day. Training in the gi is a great pleasure to me. I feel the gi makes you more technical, and that can’t be bad for MMA. The better your Jiu-Jitsu, the better an MMA fighter you’ll be!

Gregor é mais um representante da família que defende o nome Gracie nos ringues e cages. Conhecido pela boa técnica no Jiu-Jitsu sem kimono, com boas apresentações no ADCC, Gregor conseguiu a terceira vitória no MMA no dia 2 de outubro. Contra Mariusz Linke, no Brick City Fighting Championship, em Nova Jersey, o faixa-preta finalizou em apenas 2min13s, com um justo mata-leão.

Num bate-papo com o GRACIEMAG.com, o lutador comenta o desafio e diz como seguirá na busca de ser um dos melhores na sua categoria. Confira:

O que achou da sua última luta. Foi como o esperado?

Eu fiquei muito feliz! Achei que foi perfeita, ganhei sem tomar um arranhão, não tinha como ter sido melhor! Treinei muito para essa luta e estava bem confiante, sabia que iria bem.

Já se sente pronto para combater numa grande organização? Há alguma proposta?

Eu sou novo ainda e não tenho pressa nenhuma. Quero ter uma careira longa e espero fazer algumas lutas antes de ir para algum evento grande.

Tudo no meu jogo pode melhorar, quero ser o melhor” Gregor

Sua única derrota foi na trocação. Como se sente na luta em pé e o que faz para melhorar? O que acha que tem que melhorar no seu jogo?

Eu sempre treinei a parte da trocação e me sinto confortável em pé. Mas tenho que continuar treinando para melhorar sempre. Acho que tudo no meu jogo pode melhorar, quero ser o melhor e, para isso, tenho que evoluir em tudo. Muitos lutadores de Jiu-Jitsu dão prioridade em melhorar apenas a parte em pé e acabam piorando no chão. Então acho importante treinar tudo e nunca esquecer do Jiu-Jitsu.

Quais são os seus lutadores favoritos na sua categoria (meio-médio)?

Georges St. Pierre, Ricardo Almeida “Cachorrão”, Jake Shields e Jon Fitch.

Pretende lutar mais MMA agora? Continuará participando de competições de chão?

Minha prioridade agora é o MMA. É um outro esporte e o treino é muito diferente. Mas, sempre que tiver a oportunidade, vou lutar Jiu-Jitsu. Eu adoro treinar Jiu-Jitsu e tenho muito prazer em competir.

Você treina muito de kimono também? Qual a importância do pano para o MMA, na sua opinião?

Quando eu não tenho luta marcada, treino todos os dias de kimono, tenho muito prazer em treinar de pano. Acho que o kimono obriga a ficar mais técnico, e isso não tem como ser ruim para o MMA. Quanto melhor o Jiu-Jitsu, melhor lutador de vale-tudo você será!

Gregor Gracie conquered his third win in four MMA fights, at Brick City Fighting Championship on October 2 in New Jersey. The Jiu-Jitsu black belt didn’t take long in tapping out Mariusz Linke. It took him just 2:13 minutes to sink the snug rear-naked choke that yielded the Gracie his victory.

Gregor Gracie conquistou a sua terceira vitória em quatro lutas de MMA no evento  Brick City Fighting Championship, no dia 2 de outubro, em Nova Jersey. O faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu não precisou de muito tempo para finalizar Mariusz Linke. Em apenas 2min13s, um justo mata-leão decretou a vitória ao Gracie.

Gregor Gracie notched the third win of his four-fight MMA career at the Brick City Fighting Championship event held last Saturday in New Jersey, USA.

It didn’t take the Jiu-Jitsu black belt long to submit Mariusz Linke. With a rear-naked choke just 2:13 minutes into the fight, the Gracie was declared the victor.

The event also featured a showdown between teams led by Renzo Gracie and Jorge “Macaco” Patino, which Renzo’s troop won by a score of 4 to 1.

There were some letdowns at the event, though. Igor Gracie failed to pass the exams required by the Athletic Commission and was barred from fighting one day prior to the event. Also, muay thai world champion Cosmo Alexandre ended up not fighting.

O evento também cofrontava as equipes comandadas por Renzo e Jorge Patino Macaco. Neste desafio, melhor para os lutadores de Renzo, por 4 a 1 no placar.

O evento contou com algumas baixas. Igor Gracie teve problemas nos exames prestados à Comissão Atlética e foi vetado no dia anterior ao combate. O campeão de muay thai Cosmo Alexandre também acabou não lutando.

Gregor, with two wins and one loss, is getting set to face Mariusz Link, while Igor, with two wins and two losses, will have Ozzy Dugulubgov ahead of him.

Another to spice up the card is world muay thai champion Cosmo Alexandre, who will make his MMA debut against Will Chope, another muay thai specialist.
