It was a splendid party or, better yet, seminar that Fernando Tererê had in Bauru, São Paulo state, last Saturday.

With around 40 participants in attendance, the over-three-hour class gathered members of a number of teams, like Gracie Barra, Nova União (Robson Moura), CheckMat and Black Belt Bauru.

Tererê took the opportunity to promote an old student of his, Jhonattan “Pé de Bolo”, adding further emotion to the seminar put together by Professor Fábio Marmontel.

With a packed gymnasium and over 500 athletes locking horns in combat on the mats, the Open Centro-Oeste Paulista (“Midwestern São Paulo Open”) brought top-flight Jiu-Jitsu to the town of Bauru last weekend.

“It was a hit; lots of big names from the gentle art came to our region and the fighters shone brilliantly in the gi. The black belt standout was Leandro Lo, winner of the absolute division. At purple belt, props to João Miyao, who won the lightweight and absolute divisions and took home a 700-real reward,” reported event promoter Fábio Marmontel.

In the female division, in the absence of Gabi Garcia, the absolute purple/brown/black finalists were Luiza Monteiro (CheckMat) and Talita Treta (Ryan Gracie), a battle between the world lightweight runner-up and world medium heavyweight champion. Lighter but more experienced, Luiza took top honors.

“Luiza came out on top with an advantage point and was rewarded with 1,500 reais,” added Fábio.

In the grand absolute black belt finale, lightweight Leandro Lo (Cícero Costha) outpointed middleweight Adriana Silva (Barbosa JJ), last year’s winner. With the win Leandro took the 3,000-real prize.

Com o ginásio cheio e mais de 500 atletas competindo no domingo, o Jiu-Jitsu fez bonito em Bauru no fim de semana passado, com o Open Centro-Oeste Paulista.

“Foi um sucesso, vários nomes da arte suave prestigiaram nossa região e os lutadores brilharam de kimono. Na preta, destaque para Leandrinho Lo, o campeão absoluto. Na faixa-roxa, o destaque foi João Miyao, que venceu a categoria dos levinhos e o absoluto, faturando 700 reais”, contou o organizador Fábio Marmontel.

No feminino, com a campeã mundial Gabi Garcia ausente, a final do absoluto roxa/marrom/preta foi entre Luiza Monteiro (CheckMat) e Talita Treta (Ryan Gracie), uma batalha entre a vice-campeã mundial peso leve e a campeã mundial meio-pesado. Mais leve e mais experiente, deu Luiza.

“Luiza levou a melhor por uma vantagem, e foi premiada com 1.500 reais”, completa Fábio.

Na grande final do absoluto faixa-preta, o peso leve Leandro Lo (Cícero Costha) venceu o médio Adriano Silva (Barbosa JJ), campeão da edição passada. Leandrinho ganhou por pontos e ficou com o prêmio de 3 mil reais.

Next Sunday, June 19, Bauru will host some top-notch Jiu-Jitsu.

According to the organizers of 2º Open Centro Oeste Paulista de Jiu-Jitsu (“2nd West São Paulo Open”), beasts like Alexandre Souza (Gracie Floripa), Adriano Silva (Barbosa), Leandro Lo (Cicero), Paulo Ledesma (Atos) e os campeões mundiais Gabi Garcia (Alliance), Talita Treta (Ryan), Paulo and João Miyao (Cicero) will be putting in appearances – all of them after the 3,000 reais prize for winning the black belt absolute and 1,500 reais for the female purple, brown and black belt absolute. There will be cash prizes for the winners of all belt groups.

“Last installment, last year, we had a great final between Adriano Silva and Alexandre Souza, which Adriano won. This year we upped the prize money,” says Fábio Marmontel. “This year the main draw is Gabi Garcia and Talita, which is bringing a lot of females into the audience.”

Segundo os organizadores do 2º Open Centro Oeste Paulista de Jiu-Jitsu, devem pintar feras como Alexandre Souza (Gracie Floripa), Adriano Silva (Barbosa), Leandro Lo (Cicero), Paulo Ledesma (Atos) e os campeões mundiais Gabi Garcia (Alliance), Talita Treta (Ryan), Paulo e João Miyao (Cicero) – todos atrás da premiação oferecida, de 3 mil reais para o absoluto preta e 1.500 para o absoluto feminino roxa, marrom e preta. Há prêmios em dinheiro para todas as faixas.

“Na primeira edição, ano passado, tivemos uma boa final do absoluto entre Adriano Silva e Alexandre Souza, com Adriano campeão, e para este ano aumentamos a premiação”, lembra Fábio Marmontel. “Este ano a atração principal será a Gabi Garcia e a Talita, o que está atraindo o público feminino também”.
