Uma escola sem dinheiro, que precisa cortar gastos para sair do buraco e um professor de biologia hilário e casca-grossa. Essa é a trama do filme “Professor da Pesada” (“Here comes the boom”), que estreia nos cinemas dos Estados Unidos no próximo dia 12 de outubro.

No longa, o ator Kevin James vive Scott Voss, um professor trapalhão que procura uma saída para salvar o colégio em que dá aulas. Numa das tentativas, ele descobre, graças a um amigo (Bas Rutten), que pode arrecadar um bom dinheiro lutando MMA, além de estimular seus alunos a batalhar por aquilo que desejam. Entre treinos duros e engraçados, o mestre vai literalmente à luta.

O filme é dirigido por Frank Coraci, e conta no elenco com Henry Winkler, Salma Hayek, Joe Rogan, Mike Goldberg, Greg Germann, Mark Munõz, Bruce Buffer, Jason Miller e Krzysztof Soszynski.

Vale lembrar que Kevin treina Jiu-Jitsu com Rominho Barral, em Los Angeles. Para o filme, o astro treinou MMA com Rafael Cordeiro, técnico curitibano radicado na Califa.

“Apareço no filme e isso vai provar que não sou apenas um rostinho bonito (risos). Acho que o filme será um divisor de águas por se tratar de um filme de MMA com atores consagrados de Hollywood. Acho que todos ficaram impressionados com ele nos treinos”, contou Rafa Cordeiro ao site ManiaMMA.com.br.

A bankrupt school needing to cut costs to dig itself out of a financial hole, and a hilarious but big-time-tough biology teacher—that’s the plot for “Here Comes the Boom”, opening at US movie theaters this October 12.

In the feature film, Kevin James plays the part of Scott Voss, a goofy teacher looking for a way to save the school where he works. In one of his attempts, he finds out through a friend (Bas Rutten) that he can earn good money doing MMA, while also stimulating his students to fight for what they want. Between grueling but side-splitting training sessions, the master literally goes to battle.

The film is directed by Frank Coraci, and the cast includes the likes of Henry Winkler, Salma Hayek, Joe Rogan, Mike Goldberg, Greg Germann, Mark Munõz, Bruce Buffer, Jason Miller and Krzysztof Soszynski.

Also noteworthy is the fact that Kevin trains Jiu-Jitsu with Rômulo Barral in Los Angeles. In preparing for the movie, James practiced MMA with Rafael Cordeiro, a highly regarded coach from Curitiba, Brazil, now living in California himself.

“I appear in the film, which goes to show that I’m not just another pretty face (laugh). I feel the movie is going to be a watershed because it’s an MMA movie with established Hollywood actors. I feel everyone will be impressed by how he trains in it,” Rafael Cordeiro told the ManiaMMA.com.br website.

He has 28 wins, just four losses and a draw. In 22 back-to-back triumphs, 12 were knockouts and 13 finishes. That person is Bas Rutten, one of the pioneers who of what came to be MMA. Given all of that, would you believe, dear reader, that Bas was subject to bullying during his youth?

A weakly, sickly child, Bas Rutten took the brunt of his classmate’s cruelty back in Holland. That was when the martial arts entered his life through the works of Bruce Lee, the star of the movie “Enter the Dragon”.

“I wanted to be Bruce Lee to kick the bullies’ butts,” he told reporter Deb Blyth, in a can’t-miss article in the GRACIEMAG MMA supplement CHOKE, in issue 171.

Thence Rutten went on to practice martial arts, and before long he was overcoming the more seasoned practitioners at the gym, became confident, and was no longer bothered by the schoolyard bullies.

“From ugly duckling I went on to become a dapper dude! Of the guys in my group, the big-headed ones became stronger and their heads became more proportional to their bodies. Now the fat ones slimmed down.”

What later transpired was that the fighter became an MMA great, a commentator for Pride FC and still to this day, as well of heading the program “Inside MMA” and working at the Cartoon Network with the mission of encouraging the practice of physical exercise, not to mention starring on a Nickelodean commercial against bullying.

“They new my story. The project touched my heart!”

So, bullying and other forms of discrimination are ongoing problems in society around the world, and the martial arts is a major ally in solving them.

Uma criança fraca, doente, Bas Rutten era discriminado pelos colegas na infância na Holanda. Foi aí que a luta entrou na sua vida, através de nada menos que Bruce Lee, protagonista do filme “Operação Dragão”.

“Queria ser o Bruce Lee para poder chutar a bunda dos valentões”, conta à repórter Deb Blyth, numa matéria imperdível publicada na NOCAUTE,  encadernada na GRACIEMAG #171.

Foi aí que Rutten passou a praticar lutas e, em pouco tempo, já vencia os mais experientes da academia, tomou confiança e parou de ser chateado pelos valentões.

“De patinho feio passei a ser um cara boa pinta! Do pessoal da minha turma, o que era cabeçudo ficou mais forte e a sua cabeça passou a ser menos desproporcional. Já o que era gordo deu uma boa emagrecida”.

No seguimento, o lutador se tornou um dos grandes campeões de MMA, comentarista do Pride e hoje, além de conduzir o programa “Inside MMA”, trabalha no canal Cartoon Network com a missão de estimular a prática de exercícios, além de estrelar um comercial do canal Nickelodeon contra o bullying.

“Eles souberam da minha história. O projeto me tocou o coração!”.

Enfim, o bullying e outras formas de discriminação são problemas presentes na sociedade, por todo o planeta, e a luta pode ser um grande aliado.
