The 4th Big Apple BJJ Open is just around the corner on Saturday, May 17 and registration closes on May 10. The event will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr High School in Manhattan.

Special guest, Andre Galvao will hold a seminar right after the tournament on Saturday May 17 from 6 – 8 p.m.!

The cost is $80 per person but competitors are discounted to $40 per person for the first 40 that register for the seminar. The winners of all absolute divisions are able to attend for free!

Ronaldo, Denilson

GMA member André Galvão is very happy with his students’ performance at the recent Worlds No-Gi.

He tells us about two of them.

“The first one is Ronaldo Candido, who was the brown belt featherweight champion. He fought four times for the title. First, he scored 8-0 over a world champion opponent, then he ran over his adversary, with a 18-0 socre. In the semifinal, candido defeated Renzo Gracie’s Gianni Grippo with a guillotine choke. In the final, he submitted Gabriel Martins with a foot lock”, tells Galvão.

André remembers that Ronaldo has a perfect record this year: “He has only six months as a brown belt and won it all this year. He won the Pan as a purple belt, got the brown belt and won the Brazilian Nationals, the Worlds and the Worlds NO-GI. He has not been defeated this year”.

The other pupil is purple belt Denilson “Cowboy” Bischiliari, and Galvão tells us why: “He won five fights last Saturday. There was no easy fights for him. Bischiliari won the Abu Dabhi Pro in the absolute and his weight category. Remember his name”.

Andre Galvão is having quite an year.

He just won the -88kg and the absolute at the ADCC, a feature that granted him the latest cover of GRACIEMAG.

Back to San Diego, the  two times world champion decided to join the largest Jiu-Jitsu comunity in the world.

Andre Galvão San Diego is now part of the GMA.

The academy is part of Atos JJ Team.

And as a first piece of news, Galvão is on his way to Japan, for the Rickson Cup.

Andre will be at the Storm Kimonos stand  and his wife Angelica will be competing at the purple belt division.

After that, the couple will head for Hong Kong, for a seminar at Rodrigo Caporal’s academy, on October 29th.

Galvão also tells us that he is developing a personal line of gis, to be launched soon.
