This Saturday brings a second installment of Shooto Brazil to be held at the headquarters of Rio de Janeiro elite police force BOPE, hence the name Shooto Bope for the event. Like the first time the show featured a police theme, entry to the venue is invitation only.

One of the stars of the card is Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas, who against Tayson Nam will be looking to add an eighth fight to his winning streak.

Another big name headlining the show is ex-UFC fighter Ronys Torres, who will be facing Alejandro “Mandarina” Solano, known as the best fighter coming out of Costa Rica.

And adding further intrigue to an event already promising plenty of excitement, Rodolfo Marques, a Dream featherweight GP veteran, will square off with Pedro Nobre, a fighter undefeated in his 11-fight career.

O canal Combate abre o seu sinal a toda a base de assinantes das operadoras NET, SKY, Claro TV e OITV (esta para os planos com novo pacote da Globosat), neste sábado, das 20h até 1h.

A abertura é por um bom motivo. Os assinantes vão poder acompanhar, ao vivo, a transmissão do Shooto Bope, uma edição especial do evento nacional Shooto Brasil, que traz alguns dos melhores atletas de MMA em ação no país e ainda conta com a participação dentro do ringue de alguns dos soldados do Bope e do Batalhão de Choque. As lutas serão disputadas no Batalhão da Policia Militar, na Cidade Nova, no Rio, em evento somente para convidados.

Entre as lutas que prometem agitar o público, Eduardo Dantas, numa série de sete triunfos, enfrenta o americano Tayson Nam.

Também estarão no ringue feras como Ronys Torres, que tem passagem por organizações como o UFC e encara Alejandro Solano “Mandarina”, conhecido como o melhor lutador da Costa Rica.

Evento de MMA na Costa Rica, o XVT realizou a sua quinta edição no último sábado e, para a luta principal, que valia o cinturão dos pesos leves da organização, colocaram frente a frente o francês Ferrid Kheder e Hermes França.

O ex-campeão do WEC foi superado por decisão unânime dos juízes e acumula a quarta derrota seguida desde o retorno aos cages, depois de ter deixado o UFC. O evento também contou com outro ex-UFC, o americano John Gunderson, que só precisou do primeiro round para finalizar o costa-riquenho Alejandro Solano “Mandarina” com uma chave kimura.

XVT, an MMA event in Costa Rica, held its fifth installment last Saturday, headlined by a lightweight title bout between France’s Ferrid Kheder and Brazil’s Hermes França.

The former WEC champion dropped a unanimous decision and has now amassed four losses in a row since returning to the cage after his exit from the UFC. Another former UFC fighter, John Gunderson, only needed the first round to submit Costa Rica’s Alejandro “Mandarina” Solano with a kimura.

Confirmed for December 4, Bitetti Combat 8 “100 years of the Corinthians” promises excitement for the crowd to show up at São Paulo’s São Jorge Park, home to the Corinthians soccer club. Amaury Bitetti and his new partner Franco Chacur announce three matchups confirmed for the event, which again will feature big names from world MMA.

Dead set about getting back on his feet and again making it to the top of the MMA scene, Paulo Filho will face Japan’s Yuki Sasaki. Sasaki has forty fights to his name and has fought at UFC, Sengoku, Deep, Shooto, and others in the past.

In another fight starring a combatant from the Land of the Rising Sun, Thiago Jambo faces Eiji Ishikawa, an experienced fighter from the ranks of the Pancrase and Deep promotions.

The third fight confirmed promises excitement. CM System’s Cristiano Marcello will finally have his rematch against Costa Rica”s Alejandro Solano Mandarina, who is riding a seven-fight win streak. The first encounter between the two, at BC 7, saw Mandarina win by knockout, but there were many who felt the bout was stopped prematurely.

“There’s more to come. We’ll announce international fights and, of course, the ones with athletes from São Paulo,” says Bitetti.

Confirmado para o dia 4 de dezembro, o Bitetti Combat 8 “100 anos do Corinthians” promete grandes emoções ao público que comparecer no Parque São Jorge, em São Paulo, a casa do Timão. Amaury Bitetti e seu novo sócio, Fernando Chacur, anunciam três lutas confirmadas para o show, que, novamente, vai contar com grandes atletas do MMA mundial.

Disposto a dar a volta por cima e brilhar novamente no MMA, Paulo Filho encara o japonês Yuki Sasaki. Sasaki conta com 40 lutas e passagens por eventos como UFC, Sengoku, Deep e Shooto, entre outros.

Em outra luta contra atletas nipônicos, Thiago Jambo enfrenta Eiji Ishikawa, outro experiente lutador que se apresenta em eventos como Pancrase e Deep.

A terceira luta confirmada deve trazer bastante emoção. Cristiano Marcello, da CM System, finalmente vai ter a revanche contra o atleta da Costa Rica Alejandro Solano Mandarina, que vem numa série de sete triunfos. No BC 7, Mandarina venceu por nocaute, mas muitos acharam que a luta foi interrompida precipitadamente.

“Ainda vem muito mais por aí. Vamos anunciar lutas com atletas internacionais e, lógico, com lutadores de São Paulo”, diz Bitetti.

The fight between Cristiano Marcello and Costa Rican fighter Alejandro “Mandarina” Solano at Bitetti Combat stirred up a good deal of controversy. While Mandarina felt he deserved the win, Cristiano feels the referee made a mistake in bringing the bout to a halt prematurely (see here).
“The ref did the right thing because, if he hadn’t stopped it there, the fight would have ended anyway. Even if it hadn’t in the second round, it would have come in the third. I was already on my way to the win,” says the fighter, who is happy with his performance in Brazil.

“To me it’s a dream fighting in Brazil, MMA’s birthplace. Bitetti Combat has a lot of exposure in the international market and feel it was a great opportunity to show what I can do. I hope to get called back by Amaury Bitetti.”

Despite the 14 wins and 4 losses on his record, Mandarina is not very well known here in Brazil, so he took his chance to introduce himself:

“I’m a classic muay thai fighter and a Carlson Gracie team purple belt, a student of Sidnei Machado. I’m the greatest MMA fighter in Costa Rica. In America, after the United States, Brazil has the biggest events, with Costa Rica coming after. We have a lot of practitioners over there; the public loves it and our big event there is Fite Nite.

“I’d like to thank all the people of Costa Rica, the people of Brazil and my mmanagers Paloma Fabrykant and Fred Pontes for the opportunity,” he says in finishing.

“The first round was all mine. In the second I opted for the wrong strategy. I should have taken him down, where I’m superior, because striking is a game of chance. He really did get me good with that strike, but I hit the cage and was coming back when the ref interrupted. If he would have finished or If I would have recovered, no one will ever know because the ref made a mistake. There’s no doubt his strike landed, but the doubt will always be there. There were a few times when I could have defined it in the first round; the ref could have stepped in, but there will never be an end to the fight. If the event is serious about doing what’s right, they’ll reclare it a no contest and have us fight again. It’s the only way we’ll know how it really should have ended,” said the Royler Gracie black belt, adding:

“It was a mistake to bring the fight to a close prematurely like that, but it was not ill-meaning. I think it was inexperience above all else. I feel that if it had been Mario Yamasaki in there, the fight would have played out. To have a rematch of this fight in Bitetti Combat this one will have to be declared a no contest. It was a refereeing error, but he is part of the event, so the event has to take a stand. Everyone saw what happened. A lot of shows declare no contests and, if it exists, they need to use it,” he says in finishing.

A luta entre o lutador da Costa Rica Alejandro “Mandarina” Solano e Cristiano Marcello trouxe muita polêmica no Bitetti Combat 7. Enquanto Mandarina crê que mereceu a vitória, Cristiano acredita que o árbitro errou e interrompeu o combate precipitadamente (ver aqui).   

“O árbitro teve a atitude correta, porque se ele não parasse ali, a luta acabaria de qualquer maneira. Mesmo que não fosse no segundo round, viria com tudo para o terceiro. A vitória já estava encaminhada”, diz o lutador, contente pela apresentação no Brasil. 

“Para mim é um sonho lutar no Brasil, onde nasceu o MMA para o mundo. O Bitetti Combat tem grande exposição no mercado internacional e acredito que foi uma grande oportunidade de mostrar o meu trabalho. Espero um novo convite do Amaury Bitetti.” 

Apesar de ter 14 vitórias e quatro derrotas, Mandarina não era muito conhecido aqui no Brasil. Ele se apresenta: 

“Sou um lutador clássico de muay thai e faixa-roxa de Jiu-Jitsu da equipe Carlson Gracie, aluno do Sidnei Machado. Sou o maior atleta de MMA da Costa Rica. Na América, depois dos Estados Unidos, o Brasil tem os maiores eventos e, depois, vem a Costa Rica. Temos muito praticantes lá, o público adora e o nosso grande evento lá é o Fite Nite.” 

“Agradeço a todo o povo da Costa Rica, ao povo brasileiro e aos empresários Paloma Fabrykant e Fred Fontes pela oportunidade”, finaliza.

“O primeiro round foi indiscutível e dominei. No segundo, optei pela estratégia errada. Deveria ter botado para baixo, onde sou superior, porque a trocação é loteria. Realmente ele teve um bom momento, senti o golpe, mas bati na grade, estava de volta, e o juiz separou. Se ele ia liquidar a fatura ou se eu ia me recuperar, ninguém nunca vai saber, porque houve o erro do juiz. Com certeza houve o golpe dele, mas a dúvida vai sempre existir. Tive muitos momentos de definir no primeiro round, o juiz também poderia ter separado, mas nunca vai haver um final dessa luta. Se houver seriedade do evento vai ser declarado o no contest e podem botar a luta de volta. É a única maneira da gente saber como seria”, diz o faixa-preta de Royler Gracie, que continua: 

“Houve um erro, uma precipitação que não foi de má índole. Mais que qualquer coisa foi uma inexperiência. Acredito que, se fosse o Mario Yamasaki o árbitro, a luta continuaria. Para haver essa luta novamente dentro do Bitetti Combat, tem que haver o no contest. Houve um erro do árbitro, mas ele faz parte do evento. Então tem que ter seriedade do evento. Todo mundo viu o que houve. O no contest acontece em diversos shows e, se ele existe, é para ser usado”, finaliza.
