The four founding members, Samir Chantre, Osvaldo Queixinho, Milton Bastos and Alan Moraes, all with lasting impacts on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu have just opened their doors, wide, to their new association and are ready to show the world who they are.

Ares BJJ is putting family at the forefront. Their mission is to bring jiu jitsu to the next level and change lives. However, they have made one point very clear; and that is that they don’t just want affiliations, they want family member. A sense of home and community was the most important and driving force when launching the association. Expect big things for this new and solid team.

No sábado passado, em pleno feriado de Páscoa, árbitros da CBJJ e da IBJJF de diferentes equipes decidiram trabalhar. Os juízes se juntaram para uma reunião importante sobre as novas regras do Jiu-Jitsu, no Rio de Janeiro. Por cerca de três horas, os faixas-pretas estudaram com afinco o livro de regras do esporte, na lendária academia Carlson Gracie, em Copacabana.

Árbitros experientes como Luciano Mendes, Maurício Russo, Alan Moraes, Rodrigo Totti, Alexandre Baraúna, Serginho Miranda, Washington Ferreira, Léo Tim e Renato Panda, por exemplo, estavam presentes.

“A gente estudou as posições que geram dúvidas para os professores e atletas, além das novas regras, em especial a que cita o suplê e as vantagens da guarda 50/50, que sofreram alterações. Depois ainda houve um treino entre a gente, que reuniu árbitros da GFTeam, Game Fight, Laerte Barcelos, Nova União,Carlson Gracie, De la Riva, escolas tradicionais do Rio de Janeiro”, comentou Alan com o GRACIEMAG.com.

Neste domingo, na Califórnia, a IBJJF realiza o San Francisco Open de Jiu-Jitsu, segundo torneio do calendário da organização. Entre vários astros confirmados, um novato faixa-preta quer roubar a cena no ginásio do Kezar Pavilion, palco do torneio.

Com menos de um mês de faixa-preta, o carioca Vitor Paschoal (Caio Terra) quer surpreender na divisão peso-pena, que conta com os astros Rafael e Guilherme Mendes. A missão é complicada? Para Vitor, isso é apenas o início de sua jornada no Jiu-Jitsu.

“Tenho pouco tempo de faixa-preta, sinto que comecei a jornada agora e isso me dá uma motivação muito grande, algo que nunca senti antes. Tenho treinado bastante todos os tipos de situações, tanto por baixo como por cima, então fico seguro de dizer que estou pronto para dar meu máximo. Eu fico motivado quando o desafio é grande. O Rafael e o Guilherme são dois monstros e a melhor coisa a fazer é não cair no jogo deles. Vou procurar impor meu ritmo do início ao fim, não tem muito mistério”, planeja o aluno de Alan Moraes.

Paschoal detalhou seu jogo e explicou como planeja anular os adversários na competição.

“Por incrível que pareça, gosto de trocar em pé, mas no meu peso é complicado trocar quedas, todo mundo puxa para a guarda muito rápido, Não dá para tirar vantagem. Por isso, comecei a ajustar meu jogo de acordo com meu peso desde a faixa-azul. Passei a gostar muito de fazer guarda, ficar sempre por dentro das posições da atualidade sem esquecer do clássico”, diz Vitor, que acrescenta: “Acredito que todo lutador comete erros e obviamente ninguém é invencível. É exatamente nisso que vou trabalhar. O que mais se vê nessa categoria são guardas absurdas; o caminho é estar preparado para enfrentá-las”.

Vitor atualmente treina na Califórnia, com Caio Terra, Samir Chantre e Osvaldo Queixinho.

No domingo passado, dia 5 de janeiro, árbitros da CBJJ e da IBJJF de diferentes escolas decidiram se reunir para um treininho de Jiu-Jitsu amistoso, no Rio de Janeiro. O local escolhido foi a academia de Raphael Abi-Rihan, no Clube Monte Líbano, na Lagoa.

O time estava formado por Álvaro Mansor, que apenas observou os conferes, Muzio De Angelis, Luciano “Pirulito” Mendes, Rodrigo Totti, Russo Maurício e outros juízes da confederação. Cada árbitro fez sete treinos nessa sessão de confraternização.

Luciano Mendes comentou a saudável troca de informações em papo com GRACIEMAG.

“Foi uma grande experiência em prol do bom Jiu-Jitsu. A troca de conhecimento foi imensa, já que somos de diversas escolas diferentes. Sempre tentávamos organizar essa confraternização e nunca conseguíamos, pois havia algum problema com a agenda de um ou outro. Dessa vez reunimos uma galera boa, porém muitos ainda deixaram de participar por não estarem no Brasil. Teremos outras certamente”, contou Pirulito.

The Brazilian National Jiu-Jitsu Championship is coming up Friday at Rio de Janeiro’s Grajaú Country Club. The gentle-art tournament with the most tradition of all will take place across five days divided over two weekends. The first weekend will feature the white belts (Brasileiro de Estreantes tournament) and blue and purple belts from peewees to seniors, male and female, and the second weekend is when the brown and black belts enter the scene.

Sign-ups for the brown and black belt divisions are still open, but the registration window closes on April 26.

O Campeonato Brasileiro de Jiu-Jitsu rola a partir da próxima sexta-feira no ginásio do Grajaú Country Club, no Rio de Janeiro. O torneio mais antigo e tradicional da arte suave será realizado em cinco dias, divididos em dois finais de semana. Nesse primeiro estarão em ação os faixas-brancas (o Brasileiro de Estreantes), azuis e roxas, do mirim ao sênior, no masculino e feminino, e no segundo fim de semana chega a vez dos marrons e pretas.

As inscrições para as faixas marrom e preta ainda estão abertas, mas vão somente até esta quinta-feira, dia 26 de abril.

Nomes como Rômulo Barral, Yan Cabral, Bernardo Faria e o dinamarquês Alexander Trans, além das feras do Master e Sênior Alan Moraes, Admilson Brites, Bruno Ximenes, Alex Chaves, Burton Deyves e Francelino Gonçalves, já estão garantidos nas áreas de luta.

A black belt under Alan Moraes at Carlson Gracie team, Samir Chantre moved to the USA, where he teaches at Gracie Fighter academy, Cesar Gracie’s team. At this year’s American Nationals, the black belt took top spot in the featherweight division after beating beasts like Baret Yoshida and Wellington Megaton. Now his sights are on the No-Gi Worlds to take place November 8 in California.

Tell us about your American Nationals campaign.

This win was really important to me. I was in three finals in a row and came out runner-up in all three. It was a relief. I fought Baret Yoshida, who beat me at the 2009 No-Gi Worlds. I was bent on beating him. He’s a really experienced and flexible opponent with some really strong positions. I did the right game plan and managed to get him this time. I was in the final against Wellington Megaton, who I admire a lot, is great people. We went against each other at this year’s Worlds and I won in a tight, stale match. This time I let my game flow more and, thank God, I managed to sub him.

You’ve been competing in a number of competitions in the USA. What do you think of the level of the events over there?

The events are great; the organization and structure makes all the difference. The IBJJF keeps outdoing itself. The level of the North American athletes too is getting better and better and there’s no lack of examples of that. The gang here loves the sport and just dedicates more and more to it. A lot of the top Brazilians migrated here.

What are your upcoming challenges?

My next challenge is a competition in Arizona and then the No-Gi Worlds, which I was runner-up in last year as a featherweight. I’m unhappy about taking second place, but God knows what he’s doing. This year I’m going to make it up to that top step on the winners’ podium, I just haven’t decided in what division yet (light featherweight or featherweight).

At the American Nationals you won at featherweight. Do you intend to remain in that division?

I spent a bit of time in Brazil, back to my origins, training with my master Alan Moraes at Carlson Gracie academy. I did some tournaments and then relaxed. Recently I’ve been training real light. I had an injury that kept me out of training for a few weeks. When I came to, I was well over weight and I didn’t want to drop for the American Nationals, because there wasn’t much time and it wouldn’t be healthy. I’m always faced with this dilemma because I feel good at featherweight, but at the same time, it’s easy for me to drop to light featherweight.

What’s your day-to-day life in the USA like?

Gracie Fighter team is great. I’m at Body Architecture MMA gym in San Jose every day at night doing my physical conditioning work with Lori Henderson. Jiu-Jitsu training with Caio Terra at Ultimate Fitness in San Ramon is real tough, which has helped in my evolution. Matheus André and André de Freitas are also always with us. The MMA part Cesar Gracie takes care of. Training is real tough and we have a great group. Thank God, I can’t complain about the training here!
