The Abu Dhabi Fighting Championship is holding the first qualification fight on December 3 for the upcoming round three in March, to select fighters for the event. I SEE are announcing the start of the bi-monthly Top-Fights hosted at Chi @ The Lodge in Dubai on Friday December 3. The fights will serve as qualifiers for  the upcoming ADFC round three set for March 11, 2011 in Abu Dhabi.

Amateur mixed martial artists from around the region will travel to Dubai to compete against other MMA hopefuls in the outdoor venue, marking the first time the ADFC Cage will be set up in open air, for a chance to compete in the March championship grand finale. Organizers have not identified exactly how many fighters will be picked for the main event, “That will depend on the number and quality of the fighters that compete, but what we do know is that there will be tough choice as there are so many fighters who are training day and night and who harbor intense passions for becoming a part of ADFC” says Randall Yogachandra, COO of I SEE.

The third round of the championship will host the open weight final fight between Marcos Oliveira and Shamil Abdurahimov. The two contenders have fought their way to the final round and will now face off in March to see who will be the first fighter to don the ADFC title belt and win the one million-dirham grand prize.

If it weren’t enough that summer has come in one of the hottest regions on the globe, the maiden Abu Dhabi Fighting Championship (ADFC) event promises to make things even hotter than the scalding sands of the Arab Emirates. The new event is to be in tournament format, and the winners advance till the grand finale, over more than two stages.

Before the show, to be held next Friday, the 14^th, the promoters held a press conference in the Emirates Palace Hotel. And there they announced news of Márcio Pé de Pano’s substitute, none other than Cameroonian star Rameau Thierry Sokodjou, a fighter who has appearances in the UFC and Pride FC on his CV.

With Pé de Pano’s exit from the open weight tournament, Brazil’s sole representative will be Marcos Oliveira, who has been training hard to put on a show for his students in Abu Dhabi.

The black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling champion from Rio de Janeiro is training boxing for his first fight under Professor Cezário. And he’s already looking ahead to facing Sokodjou in the final, to put Brazil into the lead in score – the Cameroonian has two wins over Arona and Minotouro, and two losses to Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva.

Another promising matchup in the tournament will be the one between the USA’s Jeff Monson, a favorite to take the title, and Russias Shamil Abdurahimov.

In Abu Dhabi, all hopes are on a solid performance from local Hassan, a student of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teachers on Emirates Team.

Como se não bastasse a chegada do verão numa das regiões mais quentes do globo, a primeira edição do Abu Dhabi Fighting Championship (ADFC) promete esquentar ainda mais as areias escaldantes dos Emirados Árabes. O novo evento tem formato de torneio, e os vencedores vão avançando até a grande final, em mais duas etapas.

Antes do show, a ser realizado na noite da próxima sexta-feira, dia 14, a organização do evento realizou uma coletiva de imprensa no Emirates Palace Hotel. E lá foram apresentadas novidades como o substituto de Márcio Pé de Pano, nada menos que o astro camaronês Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, ex-UFC e ex-Pride.

Com a saída de Pé de Pano do torneio absoluto, o Brasil será representado apenas por Marcos Oliveira, que tem treinado duro para fazer bonito diante de seus alunos em Abu Dhabi.

Faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu e campeão de wrestling, o carioca está treinando boxe com o professor Cezário para sua primeira luta. E já aposta que pode encontrar Sokoudkjou na final, para desempatar o jogo para o Brasil – o camaronês tem duas vitorias em cima de Arona e Minotouro, e derrotas para Lyoto e Thiago Silva.

Outra luta que promete no torneio será entre o americano Jeff Monson, o favorito ao título, e o russo Shamil Abdurahimov.

Em Abu Dhabi, a expectativa é pela atuação do local Hassan, aluno dos professores de Jiu-Jitsu brasileiros do Emirates Team.

No último dia 26 foi realizado o torneio nacional escolar que contou com a presença de Xeque Mohammed bin Zayed e seu irmão e idealizador do ADCC, Xeque Tahnoon bin Zayed, que coroaram a festa da garotada, com direito a transmissão ao vivo e integral pela Abu Dhabi Sport TV. E ainda teremos no dia 29 uma olimpíada intercolegial com a estreia do Jiu-Jitsu escolar.

Como se não bastasse isso, conversamos com Soheil Nemri, diretor da ISEE, empresa resposável pelo Abu Dhabi Fight Chapionship, evento de MMA que terá um torneio com o prêmio principal de 1 milhão de dirham, ou 270 mil dólares.

No card, feras como Marcos Oliveira, Sergei Kharitonov, Jeff Monson e Johan Romming. Bicampeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu, Marcio Pé de Pano sofreu uma lesão e está fora do card. Segundo Nemri, outras excelentes lutas preliminares esquentarão a grade circular, palco do evento além de vários convidados ilustres.

O torneio será no dia 14 de maio em Abu Dhabi e já tem sua segunda edição marcada para setembro. Tudo indica que o show terá uma excelente organização, e que os anos dourados do MMA por aqui estão por vir. Fique atento. A temporada só está começando.

Atleta, professor e astro nos Emirados, o brasileiro Marcos Oliveira já treina de olho no primeiro torneio de MMA de Abu Dhabi. Marcado para 14 de maio, o Abu Dhabi Fighting Championship vai pagar um milhão de dirham para o peso pesado vencedor do GP, e Marcão é um dos favoritos ao prêmio. “O Cezário já ficou por aqui para treinar meu boxe. Minha primeira luta será contra o francês Romming”, comentou o wrestler e faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu. 

Também presente nos Emirados, Sergei Kharitonov enfrenta Marcio “Pé de Pano” Cruz, enquanto Jeff Monson enfrenta Shamil Abdurahimov na primeira de três fases. A intenção dos organizadores é realizar 12 eventos, e um GP peso médio está entre os planos.
