Mark Ramos of Ricardo “Rey” Diogo BJJ faced Bruno Braz of Kimura BJJ in the first round and won via bow and arrow choke.

Gustavo Carpio of Marra Senki defeated Washington Lima of GF Team by 6-0 in points.

Mark Ramos defeated Daniel Beleza of SAS Team by referee decision.

In the final, Gustavo Carpio and Mark Ramos engaged in a technical sweep battle with Carpio using his spider guard to get on top. Mark would reciprocated with his own creative means whether it be from x-guard or going inverted to take the back. The end score was 6-6 but the advantages were 4-0 in Carpio’s favor as he went for multiple omoplatas.

NO FEATHER

LIGHT

Bricklin Welch of Redzovic International defeated Diogo Almeida of Renzo Gracie by straight ankle lock.

Gianni Grippo of Alliance Marcelo Garcia defeated Rafael Costa of Renzo Gracie by bow and arrow choke.

Renan Borges of BTT defeated Bricklin Welch by lapel choke from side control.

In the final, Gianni Grippo and Renan Borges played a stalemate game with Gianni in guard and Renan working to pass. Gianni used spider and the lasso and worked to take the back as well while Renan worked an over-under type pass and tried to stuff Gianni’s bottom leg repeatedly. The decision was in favor of Gianni for the gold.

MIDDLE

Bruno Fernandes of Gracie Barra Montreal defeated Alex Aristides of Serra BJJ Academy by lapel choke from side control.

Rafael Barbosa was in the bracket but did not fight and so Vinicius Silva of Team Link received a bye to the final.

In the final, Bruno worked his guard and his passing against Vinicius who recovered a few times. The match ended with 10-0 in points in Bruno’s favor earning him the gold.

MEDIUM-HEAVYWEIGHT

Gregor Gracie did not compete so the bracket went straight to the final.

In the final, Abmar Barbosa of Drysdale Jiu-Jitsu and Jarod Lawton of New England United BJJ switched off playing bottom and passing. Abmar worked his guard and attempted an armbar but Jarod evaded the submission. Then Abmar swept into mount and Jarod recovered. The match ended after Abmar swept from his guard. The match ended 8-0 in points for Abmar Barbosa.

HEAVYWEIGHT

The only two athletes were Antonio Antonioli of Atos Jiu-Jitsu and Leandro Soares Martins of Martins Jiu-Jitsu Team so it went straight to the final.

In the final, Antonio jumped guard and while Leandro worked to pass, Antonio broke the posture with a grip on Leandro’s belt and attacked the arm. Using his fundamentals Antonio was able to submit with the armbar for the gold.

Boston Spring Open

The IBJJF has released the schedule for the 2014 Boston Spring Open.

The event takes place this Saturday, April 5, at the Umass Athletics.

This year’s edition will feature famous black belts such as Daniel Beleza, Gianni Grippo, Gustavo Carpio, Renan Borges, Abmar Barbosa, Gregor Gracie, Antonio Antonioli, Rafael Barbosa.

GMA Drysdale BJJ in Las Vegas, NV is welcoming back Abmar Barbosa to teach classes twice a week. Barbosa earned his black belt under head instructor Robert Drysdale in 2008 and has since traveled the world training, teaching and competing.

But he’s back and scheduled for a lunchtime class every Monday and Wednesday from 12 to 1:30 p.m.

The cold city of Boston, in Massachusetts, received another edition of the Boston Open and saw big Jiu-Jitsu names showing their techniques and warming the dojo of UMASS Athletics.

The star educated by Lloyd Irvin, DJ “Kimura Kid” Jackson, was the best black belt in the edition. DJ won the categories light heavyweight and open.

Besides the victories on the mats, DJ Jackson gave us two good lessons: distance and pressure. These two tools are essences in the game of Jiu-Jitsu.

In the video below, Kimura Kid teaches how to shorten the distance and put pressure to pass the guard in the combat against Abmar Barbosa.

A fria cidade de Boston, no estado de Massachusetts, recebeu mais uma edição do Boston Open e viu grandes nomes do Jiu-Jitsu mostrarem suas técnicas e aquecerem o dojô do ginásio UMASS Athletics.

O astro lapidado por Lloyd Irvin, DJ “Kimura Kid” Jackson, foi o melhor faixa-preta desta edição. DJ venceu a categoria meio-pesado e o aberto.

Além das vitórias nos tatames, DJ Jackson nos deixou duas boas lições: à distância e a pressão. Essas duas ferramentas são essências no jogo de Jiu-Jitsu.

De volta às competições de Jiu-Jitsu após contundir o joelho, Abmar Barbosa ontem beliscou duas medalhas de bronze no Boston Open da IBJJF, no meio-pesado e absoluto.

Hoje, ele celebra o retorno com umas dicas valiosas para o praticante e leitor do GRACIEMAG.com. Trata-se de uma das posições preferidas de Abmar para bloquear o famigerado berimbolo, manobra em que o guardeiro escorrega para as costas do oponente.

O faixa-preta da Drysdale Jiu-Jitsu começa a se preocupar com a posição logo de cara, quando o rival domina um de seus braços e uma de suas pernas, deixando-o sem muita base no lado direito. O primeiro passo então é plantar o pé e uma das mãos no dojô. É aí que ele obtém o equilíbrio para passar a guarda (veja em 1min10s).

A 1min22s, Abmar gira o quadril para escapar do gancho forte que o prende, e assim livrar a perna.

Com o cotovelo enfiado entre as pernas do aluno mas bem coladinho ao corpo (1min33s), para não tomar um triângulo de bobeira, Abmar dá continuidade ao movimento. Ele senta, agarra o ombro do sparing, livra o braço e passa a guarda (1min45s).

“É um movimento que tem funcionado para mim, não sei se vai dar certo com todos vocês, mas espero que ajude”, recomenda a fera.

Robert Drysdale black belt Abmar Barbosa started blazing a trail of success in sport Jiu-Jitsu starting in 2010, when he was a finalist in the middleweight division at the Pan and won other major titles.

However, a string of injuries put the brakes on some of this Rio Claro, São Paulo native’s dreams.

Without ever giving in, Abmar is preparing to return in grand style, and he recorded it all in a movie to inspire and motivate anyone who’s ever gotten injured or had to put their Jiu-Jitsu on hold for any reason.
