No sábado 10 de setembro, o fã de Jiu-Jitsu terá um evento cheio de charme e adrenalina, no Club Municipal, no Rio de Janeiro. O ginásio na Tijuca recebe mais uma edição do tradicional Campeonato Brasileiro de Equipes, evento organizado pela CBJJ há 20 anos.

O grande atrativo do evento nesta temporada é o astro Felipe Preguiça, que está inscrito com outros companheiros de Minas Gerais para reforçar o time da GB na faixa-preta e marrom adulto, no peso pesado. Mas a disputa está em aberto, pois outras equipes vêm fortes – a Nova União, por exemplo, quer faturar o troféu no peso leve marrom e preta.

No master, Raphael Abi-Rihan vai comandar seu esquadrão carioca de dentro da área de luta, na faixa-preta e marrom entre os veteranos. Como se vê, o torneio promete.

A ausência mais sentida este ano será da equipe GFTeam, atual campeã. Pela primeira vez na história, este evento lotou sua capacidade de atletas antes do prazo definido, o que provocou ruídos e atrapalhou os planos do professor Julio Cesar de enviar a formação de sua equipe nos últimos dias. A CBJJ e a equipe conversaram e se entenderam esta semana, mas a GFTeam decidiu voltar apenas ano que vem.

Faixa-preta campeão brasileiro de Jiu-Jitsu, nosso GMI Raphael Abi-Rihan organiza no Rio de Janeiro mais uma edição do Encontro de Veteranos do Jiu-Jitsu, torneio exclusivo para lutadores com mais de 30 anos.

O evento será no dia 8 de agosto e terá o clube Monte Líbano, na Lagoa, como palco.

Depois de brilhar no Brasileiro da CBJJ e no WPJJC em Abu Dhabi, Raphael Abi-Rihan não para de se movimentar. O faixa-preta agora está organizando no Rio de Janeiro seu segundo Encontro de Veteranos do Jiu-Jitsu, um torneio para lutadores com mais de 30 anos. O evento deste ano será no dia 19 de julho.

O campeonato terá como sede o clube Monte Líbano, na Lagoa. As inscrições vão até 15 de julho, e custam 70 reais – com direito a uma camisa exclusiva do evento. Estão convidados atletas de todas as faixas, nas categorias master e sênior.

Além das medalhas, há prêmios para todos os campeões da faixa-branca à preta.

Dos 70 alunos, Abi-Rihan graduou 26. O campeão brasileiro peso médio de 2009 falou sobre paciência para os que não foram graduados, e deu uma aula de teoria de Jiu-Jitsu.

“Faixa-preta é um honroso patamar, mas não é tudo”, declarou. “Quem já alcançou esse nível, consegue ensinar a técnica dos golpes, todavia devemos frisar a intensa preparação. Por exemplo, o profissional precisar tem que ser completo, e estar apto a pegar alunos com alguma deficiência física, crianças ou mesmo pessoas na terceira idade”.

“Muita gente ingressa na academia com o objetivo de sair da ociosidade ou entrar em forma, e então acaba se identificando com o esporte. A partir de 4 anos de idade, a criança já pode praticar o esporte, pois além das técnicas ensinadas, a atividade também funciona com importante ferramenta de disciplina”, concluiu.

In a tight and technical dispute, “Barata” (Abi-Rihan) managed to score three advantage points with his attempts at passing “Pimpolho’s” (Nova União) elastic guard, yielding him R$200, a gift pack, trophy and gi, as well as R$ 50 to blow at popular night club Six.

At brown belt, Leonardo Sagioro (BTT), who had four matches in the under 76kg division, stood out and took the prizes. Another who kept up his tradition of participating was Gustavo Granha (Carlson Gracie), winner for the third year in a row of the medium heavyweight master black belt division. Among the veterans, the return of Vinicius Cruz (Carlson Gracie) to the mat was well worth it. The fighter, who was world champion as a brown belt roosterweight, took first place in the middleweight black belt master category.

And the kids put on a show of their own, with one in particular promising to give much to talk about in the years to come. At only 14 years of age, Marcio André (Nova União) won five matches – four by finish – and took the adult light featherweight blue belt division.

“I’m really happy about this installment of Copa America. 630 athletes showed up, a good number of participants since we are already at the end of the year and between so many competitions. It was also the most organized installment, keeping to the timetable perfectly. We even wrapped up the event before we expected to. Copa has now become a reference on the calendar,” celebrates organizer Raphael Abi-Rihan.

Professor João Marcelo assays the three years of work, stating much progress with the children has been made.

“We increased the training load and class is packed with students. We managed four gold medals and now on the 12^th the kids will compete at the Jiu-Jitsu Copa America, organized by Abi-Rihan.

“The group has become ever-more united. But the principal progress was made in their character. The ones who noted this change are their teachers at Benjamin Constant Institute. Beyond that, they are treating their teachers and classmates better,” he reports.

The New Year’s resolutions for the program organizers include the elaboration of teaching material, as João Marcelo explains, “In the texts we tell a bit about Jiu-Jitsu’s origins, the history of the families that developed it and we explain tournament point scoring. All that for them to not get caught up only in practice so they can start citing some theory.”

As with in 2008, one of the program’s teachers, Michelle Matta, requests that anyone with the means to do so contribute to the project. Several students will be promoted at the Christmas get-together.

Anyone who thinks the 2009 Jiu-Jitsu season is over is sorely mistaken.

Brazilian national black belt champion Raphael Abi-Rihan is in the final stages of organizing the 3^rd Jiu-Jitsu Copa America, to take place as always at the end of December in Rio de Janeiro’s America FC gymnasium.

Again two supermatches will shake things up for the competition, the first between two of 2009’s gi-wearing revelations: Rodolfo Vieira (GFTeam) and Victor Bonfim (Gordo JJ). The second will be between Tiago “Barata” Ferreira (Abi-Rihan), a finalist in this year’s Rio Open, and Luis “Pimpolho” Fernado (Nova União).

“All the matches will be presented by MC Akira, with improvised rap characterizing the fighters,” says Abi-Rihan to GRACIEMAG.com. “Beyond the traditional fruit salad and juice for the athletes, this year the event offers the athletes free of charge a physiotherapy and holistic therapy booth with renowned professionals Bruno Mantovano and Cristiana Carvalho,” adds the professor.

The 3^rd Jiu-Jitsu Copa America will be held at America Football Club, at 118 Rua Campos Sales, in the Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro on December 12. The sign-up fee of R$ 40 includes the events T-shirt.

Sign-ups end on December 8 (Tuesday) and may be performed at Banco Real Bank.
