A duel between two Americans caught the attention of any BJJ fans watching Bellator 205, held last Saturday in Idaho.

IBJJF world champion Rafael Lovato defended his spotless MMA record against John Salter, a strong grappler who even competed at the 2017 ADCC in Finland. But even with that background, Salter couldn’t resist Lovato’s tight game.

After taking the fight to the ground and taking the back, Lovato wasted no time before adjusting himself and setting the rear naked choke that would catapult him up the ranks in Bellator’s middleweight division, now that he has nine wins in mixed martial arts.

Mesmo com dois brasileiros no card principal e 14 duelos no total, o Belllator 205, realizado no último sábado, dia 22 de setembro, em Idaho, teve um duelo entre americanos que chamou a atenção do fã de Jiu-Jitsu.

Campeão mundial pela IBJJF, Rafael Lovato defendeu sua invencibilidade contra John Salter, atleta bom de chão que inclusive lutou no ADCC 2017, na Finlândia. Mesmo com toda a rodagem nos treinos de Jiu-Jitsu, Salter não foi páreo para o jogo justo de Lovato, e o resultado não poderia ser outro.

Depois de levar para baixo e pegar as costas, Lovato não demorou para se ajeitar e atacar no mata-leão que valeria a vitória e a disparada na divisão de pesos médios do Bellator, com nove sucessos nos MMA.

Na luta principal, Aj McKee superou John Macapá, e antes, Patricky Pitbull bateu Roger Huerta

Roger Gracie: “I’m moving up one weight division and I need to be ready for it”

Roger Gracie is focused!

After the defeat suffered to Tim Kennedy in his only UFC fight, last July 6, Roger decided to do some changes in his training program.

After the defeat, it was reported that Roger’s contract would not be renewed with the MMA promotion.

The most accomplished Jiu-Jitsu competitor of all time, with 10 world championship gold medals as a black belt, knows that past glories mean nothing inside the cage.

With that in mind, he joined forces with trainer Phil Learney to improve his physical conditioning.

After a few days of work, Phil posted what he expects from Gracie: “He is going to be bringing some serious conditioning and power to his next fight and something completely new with his physique.”

In a exclusive interview for GRACIEMAG, Roger also commented on the new moment of his career: “I’m doing some serious strength and conditioning work. I want to increase my power and explosiveness. I’m sure that it’ll help me a lot with MMA. I want to be very well prepared physically once I move up one weight division [from 185 pounds to 205 pounds]. I need to be ready for it!”

Roger doesn’t yet know when his next fight will be, but he is preparing for it: “I haven’t signed with any organization yet and therefore still don’t know when I’m fighting next, but I believe it’s gonna be in the beginning of next year.”
