After a show in the Cidade de Deus and Mangueira favelas in Rio de Janeiro, Jungle Fight went to the biggest of them all—Rocinha. There, the Acadêmicos da Rocinha samba school’s headquarters hosted a night of MMA action. The Saturday event, the 36th for the promotion, was divided into two cards: a main card headlined by the under-93 kg title fight between “Orgulho” and Sordi; and the “Jungle Comunidade” card, comprised entirely of fighters from gyms located in the city’s different favelas.
The main event of the main card had an international twist to it, with Brazil’s Kleber “Orgulho” taking on Argentina’s Emiliano Sordi. Orgulho, one of Junior Cigano’s sparring partners, was superior right off the bat, taking the fight to the ground and pounding until the referee stepped in, all in the first round.
Besides the main event, there was also a lukewarm fight between Fabiano “Soldado” and Peru’s Diego Akita. Fabiano tried pushing the pace the entire fight, which led his opponent to exhaustion. The Peruvian did try mounting a comeback in the third round, with two submission attempts, but fatigue got the better of him and he ended up losing by decision.
Earlier in the evening, Luis “Gustavo “Besouro” faced the young Norman Carton, 19, who had the famed Luiz Dorea and Junior Cigano in his corner. Norman started out cautiously and used his reach advantage to keep his opponent at bay, however, Besouro got the better of the action throughout the three rounds and won by unanimous decision.
