Ronda Rousey is getting ready to defend her UFC bantamweight belt once again.

The challenger this time is Alexis Davis, a Jiu-Jitsu black belt.

This prompted the champion to get a little bold in a recent interview for the Great MMA Debate podcast.

Rousey said: “One thing I couldn’t stand when I was only coming into MMA from judo is all this people saying that the Jiu-Jitsu people would beat the judo fighters on the ground. It was such a stereotype. I still think that I can beat any BJJ girl in the world, gi or no gi, any weight division, black belt all the way in any rule setting.”

Ronda explained her statement: “People think that most judo fighters have no ground skills, but the truth is that we have so little time to get a submission on the ground that it takes so much more skill to do it. I remember olympic bronze medalist from Brazil, Flavio Canto, who was said to have one of the best ground games in judo. I felt that he could win a world championship in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I feel that judo fighters that are good on the ground never really got the respect they deserved.”

Rousey returned to the topic of her next fight: “Fighting Alexis, the kind of person that people always said would beat me easily on the ground, will be great to prove a point.”

Ronda Rousey faces Alexis Davies in the co-main event of UFC 175, next July 5, in Las Vegas.

Ronda is only a human,She is nothing special just a hard worker-bee,Unfortunately No girl is technical enough for her.So she should go to competitions with men. That's the only way to get higher for her- if she you aim to be the best- she cant wait forever for women to get better!

Hmmm, after re-reading her quotes, she does have a point. She's not saying Judo over BJJ, she's just saying that just because Judo doesn't focus on submissions and groundwork, doesn't mean it's nonexistent there.

That being said, I'm sure she trained her groundwork from a BJJ coach, and not a Judoka.

Still a little shocked about the weight class thing. I'm scared to death of of going against guys 5 pounds heavier than me (who should be like 20, *cough cough*). I guess it's kind of in the BJJ spirit, to see yourself in the open weight?

@Rain yes that point is valid but what I am referring to is her apparent belief that no female in the world can beat her in any rule setting or weight category. Also I find her "mad dog" faces and pre fight bullying to be pathetic and unworthy of a role model which she is whether she likes it or accepts it.

I think she's just playing up the "heel" character like a WWE wrestler.

Her goal is to sell tickets, not to be liked. She knows she's not very likeable. Gina Carrano already tried the likeable approach.

Her competition in MMA is, so far, not in her league. She has to sell tickets somehow. Having both fans and people who want to see her get punched in the face is another way to sell tickets.

Alexis Davis was actually at the last American Cup and I stood next to her watching some black belt fights. She had a Caio Terra shirt on.

I wish her luck, but she's so… tiny. Rousey is a bully with massive upper body strength.

Rain Fang maybe she trained with a great judoka thats why she developed her standing and ground game. a judoka would win over a jiu jitsu fighter.
