Marcelo “Lapela” Mafra (CheckMat) is preparing for the IBJJF’s No-Gi Worlds, coming up in November. But that won’t keep him from nabbing some other medals along the way.

The last one came last weekend, when he won four matches in the absolute and three in his weight division, thus taking home two Grapplers Quest belts from Las Vegas.

In the Absolute final Lapela faced a game Davi Ramos (Atos) and says he did what was right: “I’m well trained and I used the right strategy to win the title and prize money. I launched a spot-on attack in the final instants of the match, which secured me an advantage and the win. I came to win, and the video is there for anyone who wants to see,” he said in conclusion, without addressing Davi’s complaints.

    Why controversial?
Is that when a guy from Atos loose now, it will be called controversial?
Great match! No one taking chances, untill the winner did so at the end.
    Enough crying in BJJ already.

Ramos was upset because Lapella didn’t engage but as you can see he did engage. He wasn’t mad at Lapella, he was gracious but he was upset with the officials. The fight ended over on the other side of the mat so if there was no engagement how would it heve gotten there. Funny…Lapella is usually the one to sit down and wait for the attack, not the opposite
