This Saturday night in California promises fireworks. That’s because UFC 121 is offering up a top-notch cast in drool-worthy matchups. The main event of the evening, for instance, has Brock Lesnar putting his heavyweight title up for grabs against the dreaded Cain Velasquez. Who will walk out with the belt?
GRACIEMAG.com isn’t sitting on the fence and offers up the newsroom’s predictions for the fights on the live pay-per-view card. Opinions varied, between the nine who posted their bets this times around. In some of the predictions there was a split in the wagers, like the one between Tito Ortiz and Matt Hammill, with “Bad Boy” Tito taking just one of the votes.
In the bout between debuting Jake Shields and Martin Kampmann, there was unanimity favoring the Cesar Gracie black belt. There was also a split as to the main event, but the majority predict Cain Velasquez will be the new champion.
How about you, reader, who on the main card do you have winning?
Check out the scorecard and don’t skip leaving your opinion below:
Cain Velásquez dethrones Brock Lesnar 6 to 3
Jake Shields 9 to 0 Martin Kampmann
Paulo Thiago 6 to 3 Diego Sanchez
Tito Ortiz 5 to 4 Matt Hamill
Gabriel Napão 6 to 3 Brendan Schaub
My picks:
Cain via first-round knockout
Jake Shields via arm-triangle in round two
Paulo Thiago via rear-naked choke in round three
Matt Hamill via split decision
Brendan Schaub via second-round TKO
Brock round two ground n pound- Cain throws too many combinations and you can’t stand that still in front of Brock
Shields round 3 by sub- kampmans stand up is great, shields needs work as after this fight George or Koscheck are both horrible fights for him
Tiago silva decision – tough fight but Tiago takes it
Hamill split decision
Schaub round 2 KO- shaub has speed and power, he hits hard and is not easy to hold down or sub, gabriel’s chin and endurance are suspect
Cain via tko for sure. Late second round but I’m thinking the third. He definitely has the stamina to take the fight in the later rounds. He’ll succeed where Carwin failed.
I hate to say it but I have to go with Shields. I’m predicting a decision win here.
