Sean Flanery receives graduation from Shawn Willians
The weekend of May 3rd-4th was a special one for Hollywood BJJ, GMA member In California. John Danaher, instructor at Renzo Gracie Academy, in NYC, droped by for a seminar and amazed aeveryone with his technique and capacity to teach. About him, Hollywood BJJ’s head instructor Shawn Willians had a lot to say: “What a great weekend! John showed why he is truly one of the best BJJ minds on the planet.” This was Danaher’s first seminar ever.
On top of that, there was a surprise for assistant coach Sean Flanery. On Sunday, during John’s seminar, ghe received his black belt from Shawn. “What a huge accomplishment, and of course very well deserved!! It is my first promotion to Black belt and I couldn't be more proud of the practitioner that he has become. As much of a special day it was for Flanery, it was as equally special for me. We will have a formal ceremony in the next few weeks,” wrote a very emotional Willians in his website.

Sean also wrote some words about his accomplishment: “On May 4th, I received a windfall of currency. It's nothing that can be deposited in a bank, or used to purchase a car, but the kind that you keep with you in your pocket for the rest of your life. To say that I am honored would be an understatement, but to say that I am honored to receive my windfall from Shawn Williams would not only qualify for the "understatement of the year" competition, but it would win by a comfortable margin. Having said that, to say that I am the first person ever to receive it from Shawn Williams is...well...I can't properly translate it as of yet. I do, however, know that I wouldn't trade this feeling for the world, and that it is one of the most valuable things I possess.
