16.02.2007 BJJ Worlds' History, part 4 - ...Jacaré and Roger tore off at the final stretch and come out of the first decade of Worlds as the current biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu and protagonists in the greatest rivalry in the history of the competition CONSTANT RENEWAL in the middleweights: while in 2004, Marcelinho Garcia wore the white gi to defeat Cássio Werneck in the final (above), in 2005, André Galvão yanked Felipe Cranivata’s knee in the only submission of the black belt decisions (below)..
IN 2004, Xande Ribeiro played on top, tangling himself up in Jefferson Moura’s legs, to, at the same time, win his first title as a black belt and dethrone the two-time champion of the heavyweight division at the time.

FABRÍCIO WERDUM contains Fernando Tererê to take the super-heavyweight gold, in 2004. For different reasons, the two did not fight in the Worlds of 2005. While Werdum concentrated on training for Pride, Tererê recuperated from personal problems and was only seen in the stands.
THE SECOND YEAR in a row, Mário Reis defeated Frédson Paixão, this time (2004) in the final of the featherweight, in which, wearing the blue gi, he came out on top, concluding a sweep. But Frédson would make the southerner go to all fours the following year, getting back the title he had not had since 2002.
