11.03.2008 Thales to fight in LondonAdversary with tough name thoroughly studied Thales Leites spent carnival with friends on the beaches of Santa Catarina, instead of fighting in the UFC. But, now the injury to his hand has healed completely, the party is over and its time to work hard for the win – and leave behind the leisure time, like that pictured in his MSN avatar, on the coast of Itacoatiara, Niteroi, with a backpack, with his Labrador by his side – named Ryo Leites, collegue of Arona’s pitbulls.
And it is in thinking of his next commitment at 185 pounds that Thales (12w, 1l) accesses the internet from his home in Niteroi, a little after 10pm on Monday. He wants to confirm what he had been awaiting ever since he submitted Ryan Jensen in August of last year, in his last fight in the octagon. “My hand’s already well, I’m training and should fight on June 7 at UFC 85,” types Thales, proving his fingers are already nimble.
That was right after an email arrived from the UFC. His fight at Ultimate London is confirmed. Against whom, GRACIEMAG.com asks. The anxiousness of the fast and well-healed fingers thus betray him:
Thales says: Against Nathan… Marquadt Thales says: Marquardt Thales says: Marquardt!
“The third is correct. Strange name!” he complains. But despite the difficulty in spelling it, Thales is already familiar with Nathan’s (26w, 7l, 2d) game inside and out: “After waiting for so long, he has been really well studied. I had already seen two of his fights before, I know he’s dangerous, experienced and really aggressive,” the Nova Uniao black belt sums up. “He knows how to fight standing and on the ground, he’s a tough guy to take down and has a good guillotine.”
GRACIEMAG.com bids him farewell. Thales remains online.
