Gregor is one more Gracie who’s been doing well in MMA. Last Friday, the 30th, the Gracie Barra black belt defeated Eric Henry with a kimura, at 1:56 min of the first round of the second-to-last fight at Ring of Fire, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The win was Gregor’s career second. In June this year, he submitted Josh Lydell with a rear-naked-choke in the first round, at the CFFC event.
Back in New York, Gregor comments on his performance: “I signed for this fight a month ago and from I’ve been training hard ever since. Before that, I had been training lightly to not lose pace. My opponent was really strong and surprised me for assuming a south-paw stance, when in the videos I’d seen he was right-handed. I tried trading on foot, since he’d stuffed my shots for takedown, to make it easier to take him down. My main route is Jiu-Jitsu, which I’ve practiced for 10 years, I’ve been practicing standup for the last year and a half,” he declared.
When queried as to his next career step, Gracie, who was assisted in his corner by cousin Renzo, responded: “I’m focused entirely on MMA and am looking for another fight, but I’m in no hurry. I’m only 22 years old and have two fights, it’s good to start slowly, as I still have a lot to learn and want to fight till I’m 40. One day I hope to be in a big event."
