One of the greats in MMA fighting and coaching, Murilo Bustamante spent 2008 without competitive action. He has not stepped in the ring since December of 2007, when he lost by split decision to Makoto Takimoto, at Yarennoka, and is now aching for a return. In 2008, the Carlson Gracie black belt has some good offers, but put faith in a new organization and missed some big opportunities.
“God willing I’ll be back soon. In 2008 I took a hard knock with that event, Godz of War, which caused me to lose two contracts. I should have fought at Affliction in July against Matt Lindland. I received an invitation but turned it down because I was signed with Godz. I also missed another offer from Japan. After that, I had a few other offers, but nothing really good turned up, nothing really attractive,” he lamented.
Even so, the Brazilian Top Team leader continues preparing and training athletes on the team. The master is certain, though, that in 2009 new opportunities will surface.
“I’m hoping for something this year. I’ve already received a few offers and am negotiating to see that I come back soon. I want to fight, I’m dying for it,” he said.
