27.12.2008 Wand vs Rampage heats upBrazilian speaks to GRACIEMAG.com
Nalty Jr., GRACIEMAG.com collaborator
UFC 92, to take place this evening, in Las Vegas, promises to be one of the best of all times. During the official weigh-ins, which took place yesterday, GRACIEMAG.com was present for the boos the crowd had in store for Frank Mir, Rashad Evans and Quinton Jackson.
The most applauded by the fans to pack the MGM Grand convention center were Forrest Griffin, Minotauro and Wanderlei Silva.
Speaking of Wand, the Brazilian drove the crowd wild by staring down Quinton Jackson, who could not contain himself and started provoking the Brazilian. Were it not for UFC president Dana White’s intervention, the fight might have taken place right there and then.
Having witnessed the exchange, GRACIEMAG.com envoy Nalty Jr. entered the scene and had an exclusive chat with Wanderlei. Check it out:
What did Quinton Jackson say to you at the weight in?
To tell you the truth, I didn’t quite understand. But I don’t like him and if Dana White hadn’t separated us, I would have hit him right there.
How did you go about preparing for this fight?
I’m at the top of my game in every way. Rafael Alejarra did excellent work with me. On the technical side I had the help of Demian Maia, Amaury Bitteti, Robert Drysdale. I trained with Minotauro, who is a fantastic guy, and I’m certainly well prepared and I’m going to win this fight.
What’s missing for you to become the holder of this UFC belt?
Winning this fight against Quinton Jackson, for sure the next one will be a title dispute. The truth is I’m new in the event. This will be my third UFC bout, but for my past experience, I can cut in line.
You’ve been training with Forrest Griffin. What will it be like if he beats Rashad Evans and you win your fight? You would have to fight him for the belt…
Forrest is a great training partner, but all I can say is this: friends are friends, business is business.
