There were more than 11 hours of Jiu-Jitsu. The Brazilian Team Nationals filled gentle-art lovers’ Sunday in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The cheering sections were as fire breathing as always in the Tijuca Tennis Club. Even Brazilian television star Luana Piovani made an appearance to lend support to her boyfriend, Felipe Simão, Gracie Barra representative.
Sunday was marked by great bouts. World champion Antonio Braga Neto walked through stalwart Gabriel Vella and ended the brown/black category final with 15 to 2 on the scorecards. Middleweight world champion Sergio Moraes (GRACIEMAG 140 cover) did not end up defending his gym, as the dispute was over before his fight. He was called up as the fifth man on Alliance for the final against Ryan Gracie / Gordo JJ, which ended up taking gold. Sergio only had one fight the whole day, in the semifinals against team Gracie Barra.
In the brown / black lightweight dispute, the title went to GFT, which beat Check Mat in the final. Also to step onto the fight areas were stars like Micahel Langhi, Delson Heleno, Roberto Tozi and Eduardo Portugues. Despite losing in the brown/black, Alliance debuted two new stars, roosterweight Bruno Malfacine and ultra heavyweight Leo Leite.
In the overall team tournament, the team recently formed by Leo and Ricardo Vieira ended up winning the adult category. Very much due to the purple belts’ performance, Check Mat ended the adult dispute in first, followed by GFT (Gama Filho) and Alliance.
