In finishing off Paul Daley by armbar in the second round of one of the main events at Saturday’s EliteXC event, Jake Shields showed the work he did in polishing up his Jiu-Jitsu at the gym of two Brazilians, in Miami, was well worthwhile. Before the bout, the current EliteXC welterweight champion did a period of training at Gracie Miami. There he was received by the Valente brothers: Pedro, Gui and Joaquim.
“During the week preceding the fight, Shields also trained with Gracie Los Angeles instructor Ryron Gracie, who was also spending a few days with us. Another who made use of the opportunity was former Strikeforce lightweight champion and training partner to Jake Gilbert Melendez,” Gui Valente told GRACIEMAG.com.
