Over 1 million to fighters at UFC 84

BJ Penn best paid of all

As it’s the rules, the State of Nevada Athletic Commission today released the purses paid to the athletes who figured in UFC 84, last Saturday. The best paid was the winner of the evening’s main event and current lightweight champion BJ Penn, who pocketed US$ 250,000.

In second place came Brazilian star Wanderlei Silva, who got back on the winning track and took home US$ 150,000 to fight and another US$ 75,000 as a reward for the best knockout of the evening, coming to US$ 225,000. Curiously, Wand was the only athlete to not have his purse doubled for winning on the night. Should he have lost, he would have received the same US$ 150,000.

Tito Ortiz took third, with 210,000 dollars, even though he lost to Lyoto Machida. The following are the purses paid to the athletes, including win bonuses, but not including the US$75,000 for best knockout (Wanderlei Silva), submission (Toquinho) and fight (Wilson Gouveia vs Goran Reljic).

B.J. Penn ($250,000) defeated Sean Sherk ($35,000)
Wanderlei Silva ($150,000) defeated Keith Jardine ($10,000)

Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou ($80,000) defeated Kazuhiro Nakamura ($20,00O)
Rich Clementi ($40,000) defeated Terry Etim ($10,000)
