Now that Chuck Liddell and Mauricio Shogun will no longer be taking part in UFC 85’s main event for injury reasons, the organization’s directors were quick in brining in another marquee fight for London on the 7th of June. The chosen parties were Thiago “Pitbull” Alves and Matt Hughes.
Pitbull is coming off five wins in a row, the last of which was against tough judoka Karo Parisyan, earning him the post of challenger number two to the belt belonging to Georges Saint-Pierre. Should he beat Hughes, the ATT representative will face the winner of the match between Saint-Pierre and John Fitch.
Now Matt needs to pull himself together after losing to the current champion of the weight group land show why he was the category’s most dominant fighter of all times.
“I've pulled out some of the old Matt Hughes tapes and I'm trying to get back to being that fighter. Nobody should write me off just yet. To be honest, I like the matchup (against Thiago Alves at UFC 85),He's a stand-up guy. On the ground, he's not nearly as dangerous. I'll be stronger, I believe I'll be the better wrestler and I like the fact he's kind of a slow starter. I think I can wear him out before he gets going,” said Hughes to the website Fightline.com.
