King Abdallah II, supreme commander of the Jordanian armed forces, last week visited the army unit in the north of the military zone. The monarch watched several military exercises, presentation of arms and some other types of training meant to improve a soldier’s performance, including a Jiu-Jitsu presentation, which was recently incorporated in the soldiers’ training process by decree of the king.
At the cerimony, his majesty presented around 40 members of the royal army who attended an armed forces program consisting of five hours of training per day for 10 months with a blue belt. Those responsible for the classes were black belts Zaid Mirza, Pedro Galiza and Jonatas Gurgel, with the help of three local purple belts.
King Abdallah was satisfied and impressed with the dedication of the group that he promoted a 20-minute demonstration of the gentle art and its effectiveness on different occasions. Approximately 3000 members of the army attended the festival that was on the headlines of the newspapers and news of the country’s main television stations.
