I am so proud and happy that the great state of Louisiana has had the pleasure and honor of being blessed with an instructor of the caliber and integrity of Rafael. I was Louisiana's first ever native black belt, under Rodrigo Medeiros, and as a jiu-jitsu professor in the state I am very wary of those claiming to teach jiu-jitsu. Rafael has blown away all expectations. He has established the LBJJF and many many great tournaments in the state and has been instrumental in building the culture of jiu-jitsu in the South. I am for one am honored to count myself an instructor in the state along side him. Rafael has carried the torch for Brazil, Jiu-Jitsu and Gracie Barra with honor, dignity and a respect that should make anyone who knows him very proud. Thank you Rafael and keep up the great work.

I have been training under Proffessor Rafael Ellwanger for two years. During family vacations I find local BJJ gyms to train in the area that I vacation in. I am fortunate to have trained with numerous professors. Professor Rafael Ellwanger is my proffessor and my friend! One of the numerous things I enjoy about training under him is his passion and his friendship. We are all family in Louisiana. When I started training at his gym and rolled on the mat with experianced students they would coach me verbally as we were rolling. Instead of smearing me across the mat as they could have, they took the oppritunity to help me excel rather tap out another student. I immediatly knew that I was in the right place. Every class there are smiles across the mat. Professor Rafael is always there for us for anything we need. In return we are there for him for anything he needs, that's what friends do. Now my 6 year old son Nunzio, 4 year old daughter Luciana and myself are part of a world wide family that brings us joy and something to look forward to everyday.
