22.10.2006 Fedor is The Real DealRussian colossus shines in the Pride US debut The artificial snow that fell when Fedor Emelianenko entered in scene was a remarkable way to freeze the climax of ‘The Real Deal’, the name of Pride’s first show in the US, which took place on that October 21st night in Las Vegas. But even more remarkable and cold was the swift armbar that made Fedor made Mark Coleman tap out with at 1m17s of the second round, in the main event of the evening.
This match went longer than the one they had in 2005, but the superiority of the greatest fighter in the world was pretty much the same. The Russian controlled the stand up action in the first round. As an apparently fatigued Coleman finally got the take down in the beginning of the second, Fedor used his ground skills to quickly set the armlock that finished the event.
Young, skilled Chute Boxe star Mauricio Shogun took less than three minutes to display a well-connected sequence of leg attacks, until he finally made former NCAA wrestling champion Kevin Randleman give up, in the seventh bout of the night.
Shogun’s assault happened right after another leg submission, the one applied by Josh Barnett on Pawell Nastula, in the second round of a fight that was pretty much controlled by Nastula until the lethal weapon was triggered by "The Babyface Assassin".
Another very anticipated bout was the fourth, between Dan Henderson and Vitor Belfort. People who went to the Thomas & Mack Center watched three rounds full of actions, as Henderson managed to take Belfort down several times and also landed some of his well known wild punches. Belfort’s sweeps and upper cuts weren’t enough to convince the judges, who gave “Hollywood Henderson the victory, by unanimous decision.
