The World Jiu-Jitsu Expo will also be the setting for the launch of the biography of one of the most important figures in Jiu-Jitsu history.

Carlos Gracie, The Creator of a Fighting Dinasty, is the English version of the book released in 2008 in Brazil.

Carlos Gracie’s life and the saga of his family are told in a biography written by his daughter, Reila Gracie. Carlos was more than the creator of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

As an athlete, he had memorable bouts, which packed gyms and stadiums in Rio de Janeiro, where he lived with his family. As a teacher, he shaped future champions who would revolutionize the sport, such as his brother Hélio and son Carlson.

4_GB72_StampSiteAuthor Reila Gracie, 54 , mother of the 10-time World Jiu-Jitsu champion Roger Gracie , from Rio de Janeiro, is an arts publisher and president of the Carlos Gracie Cultural and Sports Association.

Among the internationally recognized artists she publishes are: Cildo Meireles, Anna Maria Maiolino, Waltércio Caldas and Antoni Muntadas. As a silk-screen printing teacher, she has worked with psychiatric patients at the Colônia Juliano Moreira.

  1. A million times I thank you Reila Gracie for writing the Carlos Gracie: Creator of a fighting dynasty book. I've been waiting a long time for this book and it was well worth wait, it has come at the right time in my life to truly appreciate it. Like the ancient proverb says when the student is ready the teacher shall appear is so true. I am inspired about "The Path". It has answered so many questions and completed the story about the whole Gracie Family. This book must be made into a mini series like "Marco Polo" on Netflix or for HBO cable because like Marco Polo (minus the killing) the book is too long of a story to be told properly in a single movie sitting no matter how many hours long. The series can start with the book, continue pass and conclude in present day. The series could run for years just with the content in the book. Each fight could be it's own episode recreating the events according to the detailed in the book and news paper reports from the time. As a filmmaker with a vivid imagination, I already mentally created the mini series and previewed it in my head as I was reading the book before falling asleep and then dreaming about it. When the mini series is produced, it's going to be an Award Winning Blockbuster Masterpiece.

And another suggestion, someone should consider producing an audiobook or E copy of Carlos's 1948 book "Introduction to Jiu Jitsu: by Carlos Gracie" in many different languages with a poster of the book cover. I believe his message in the book were relevant in 1948, are relevant today and will be forever like the "Art of War". Oss
