The big names to arise at the tournament were: Rômulo Barral, medium heavyweight and absolute winner in the adult black belt group; Luzia Fernandes, who did the same in the female division; Saulo Ribeiro, who himself scored two golds in the master division of the Master & Senior Championship; and Roberto Godoi, another to come up with two gold medals, but in the senior 1 division.
