King of purple belts takes throne at Worlds

Saturday wasn’t just about the black belts at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship. The biggest standout of the purple belt division also arose from the match areas in the Long Beach Pyramid on the day. Ex-purple belt, that is.

Felipe Pena, a 19-year-old student of Draculino and Rômulo Barral, had 10 matches at the 2011 Worlds and submitted seven opponents in winning his weight group and the absolute, leading to his subsequent promotion.
